Kandahar Home - Masterton
Kandahar has provided a full range of residential care services for older people in the Wairarapa for over 50 years. The home is set in large, pleasant grounds and is close to shops and QEII Park.
Kandahar has 45 single rooms in a warm, home-like environment with help on-call. We offer a welcoming and tranquil environment where residents enjoy wonderful companionship and top quality care.
Recreation programme
Residents enjoy regular visits with community groups and interesting activities, including:
- arts and crafts
- indoor bowls
- gardening groups
- card sessions and trivia quizzes
- Saturday night movies
- housie.
Rest Home
Moving into residential care can be a positive decision for everyone concerned. Our Rest Home supports older people who cannot manage at home. Enabling you to maintain your independence and privacy in home-like surroundings is our goal.
Hospital care
We have 18 hospital beds and experienced medical staff to take care of residents' health needs in a warm, caring environment. Kandahar Home works with local GPs to ensure our clients' medical needs are met. Residents may choose to retain a relationship with their own GP if this is practical.
Dementia care - Kandahar Court
Kandahar Court has 24 individual safe-care rooms for people with dementia. We believe our residents should be treated as individuals and be afforded the respect and dignity that comes with age and experience.
Kandahar Court offers wonderful companionship in a peaceful, comfortable environment. We maintain an interesting and varied recreation programme which includes regular outings and close contact with community groups, including the local Alzheimer's Association.
Day activity programme
Kandahar offers a day activity programme for older people who live elsewhere or those with a disability, on week days from 10am to 3.30pm. Transport can often be arranged. Day activities may be accessed as a part of clients support plan.
Rental Flats
We offer affordable rental accommodation allowing residents to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle with assistance close to hand if needed.
Respite care
If you are caring for an older person, occasionally you need time out to refresh. Kandahar provides a place for the person you care for while you get the rest you need. It's a flexible service to suit you.
Respite care may be funded by your local District Health Board or you can arrange it with us directly and pay for it privately.

Accessing any of our services is easy and worry-free. You can be referred by a needs assessment agency or your doctor, or you can call us directly. Enliven will fit around your requirements - all you need to do is ask.
